I look at numbers for a living.
I spend my days analyzing spreadsheets, tracking expenses, and preaching the importance of “cutting the fat” from a budget. I know exactly how much a $15 monthly charge adds up to over ten years. I know the math.
But I am also human.
And like everyone else, I have that one subscription. The one that sits on my credit card statement every month, staring at me. The one I know I should cancel.
For me, it was Streaming platform which I never user “Yupp Tv”.
Logically, it makes no sense. I could watch something else. I could put that money into an index fund and watch it grow.
But I don’t. I pay it. Every single month.
Why? Because personal finance isn’t just about math. It’s about psychology.
Sometimes, we pay for things not because they are “good investments,” but because they buy us a tiny slice of peace. Maybe it’s the convenience. Maybe it’s the nostalgia. Maybe it’s just the dopamine hit of having exactly what we want, right when we want it.
I call this my “Sanity Tax.” It’s the price I pay to keep a little bit of joy in my routine, even if the calculator says it’s a waste of money.
Now, I want to hear your confession.
We all have one. The gym membership you never use but swear you will “next month.” The meal kit service that piles up in the fridge. The app you downloaded three years ago and forgot how to cancel.
Tell me in the comments:
What is the one subscription you refuse to cancel?
Why do you keep it? (Be honest!)
I’ll be replying to everyone below. Let’s see who has the strangest one.
